چکیده

In this study effects that are significant on the fuel consumption of F-4 aircrafts are analyzed by using different statistical methods and the results of those different methods are compared. The response variable of every possible combination of factors and interactions are analyzed to provide information about main effect(s) and interaction effect(s). MARS is applied in order to find the relationship and a tree model in order to summarize the relationship of main effects and the interactions on a plot. Also a 2 factorial experiment with 4 replications is performed to determine the significant main effects and interactions. The analysis is repeated for one-half fractional factorial experiment. A comparison of performance of the methods is made in order to investigate their applicability. Key-Words: Regression trees, MARS, factorial experiments, fractional factorial experiments, basis function, GCV (Generalized Cross Validation), recursive partitioning, AID (Automatic Interaction Detection).

Proposed Procedure for Estimating the Coefficient of Three-factor Interaction for 2^p 3^m 4^q Factorial Experiments (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Three-factor interaction for the two-level, three-level, and four-level factorial designs was studied. A new technique and formula based on the coefficients of orthogonal polynomial contrast were proposed to calculate the effect of the three-factor interaction The results show that the proposed technique was in agreement with the least squares method. The advantages of the new technique are 1) ...

Factorial and Fractional Factorial Designs with Randomization Restrictions - a Projective Geometric Approach

Two-level factorial and fractional factorial designs have played a prominent role in the theory and practice of experimental design. Though commonly used in industrial experiments to identify the significant effects, it is often undesirable to perform the trials of a factorial design (or, fractional factorial design) in a completely random order. Instead, restrictions are imposed on the randomi...

Identification of dispersion effects in replicated two-level fractional factorial experiments

Tests for dispersion effects in replicated two-level factorial experiments assuming a location-dispersion model are presented. The tests use individual measures of dispersion which remove the location effects and also provide an estimate of pure error. Empirical critical values for two such tests are given for two-level full or regular fractional factorial designs with 8, 16, 32 and 64 runs. Th...

Optimal Fractional Factorial Split-plot Designs for Model Selection

Fractional factorial designs are used widely in screening experiments to identify significant effects. It is not always possible to perform the trials in a complete random order and hence, fractional factorial split-plot designs arise. In order to identify optimal fractional factorial split-plot designs in this setting, the Hellinger distance criterion (Bingham and Chipman (2007)) is adapted. T...

Design of experiments with multiple independent variables: a resource management perspective on complete and reduced factorial designs.

An investigator who plans to conduct an experiment with multiple independent variables must decide whether to use a complete or reduced factorial design. This article advocates a resource management perspective on making this decision, in which the investigator seeks a strategic balance between service to scientific objectives and economy. Considerations in making design decisions include wheth...
